Readathon, Oct 2010: End of the Event Post

End of readathon! I didn't even finish half of the book I was reading, but I had fun trying.

1. Which hour was most daunting for you?

The 2nd to 3rd hour. Only because I was expecting to concentrate on reading, but I had to attend to a phone call which I could not put down, even if I badly wanted to.

2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?

The book I'm reading, Pillars of the Earth, turns out to be a very fast-paced read. At least, I found it engaging. Thing is, I don't think many people would take it on for the readathon, given the thickness.

3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?

I would love to have a countdown widget to the start of the Readathon, and another countdown widget for the full 24 hours of the Readathon.

4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?

I think the number of people who signed up for this readathon is amazing. First time I joined last year, it was something like 200+. When I checked yesterday, it was 400+. I think people who've joined the readathon before found it a really good experience that word trickled to others who eventually joined.

Oh, as usual, I loved the cheerleaders.:)

5. How many books did you read?

1/3 of a book. Read up to page 384 of my book in 8 1/2 hours of reading.

6. What were the names of the books you read?

Pillars of the Earth.

7. Which book did you enjoy most?

Well, I was reading just the one...

8. Which did you enjoy least?

I enjoyed the book I was reading, so I'll say--none.

9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?

Not a cheerleader, but I have advice for myself: Try cheerleading next time!

10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?

Oh, I'm definitely joining again, as a reader and, hopefully, as a cheerleader. But maybe next time, I can make sure to hole up somewhere with my books, my laptop, and loads of food, and tell my family they can only contact me during emergencies.

Thanks again to the organizers for another successful Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon!

POTE is quite notorious for its thickness and the smallness of its text, so a round of congratulations is in order. I only got to finish the thinner of the two books I chose plus only a few pages of the other, but I think my first time isn't half bad. I promise to be more focused during the next readathon. Bring it on, April. Oh, and I have you to thank for introducing me to this wonderful event. Till next time! :p

Thank you for being gracious, Aldrin. I promise I'll get to those books you lent me after POTE.:)

You think you'd be interested in participating in a face-to-face readathon? We were thinking of organizing one before and involving other groups.

Let's plan next year's Honey.

Congrats on the progress on POTE -- I haven't even started yet!

I am glad you are enjoying The Pillars of the Earth!

@Honey No need to rush into the books I lent you. Truth be told, I haven't touched The Passage since our meet-up. Gah, but do tell me if you need it already. :|

Ooh, that sounds exciting. My attendance will depend on the date and venue, of course, but I'm most eager to join. :)
Yay! I found someone that didn't finish a book either. I thought I was the only one! At least it was fun, right?

Sounds like you did great! A widget that counts down the time is a fabulous idea!
The play was a great success, but the audience was a disaster.

Congratulations on your success in this year's Readathon!

1/3 of Pillars of the Earth = at least 2 normal sized books so give yourself a pat on the back!

Hi, fantaghiro23! I've read POTE when I was still in college. And knowing myself, I have no plans of rereading it. It's a doorstop! Right now I'm happily watching the mini-series, which is great!

Well done Honey! Now that you've read Pillars of the Earth, you have to see the mini-series. I'm currently in the middle of it and it's just fabulous! You can download the episodes on line.
Great job, Honey! I can't imagine trying to read Pillars of the Earth during the readathon, so I pass my kudos to you! And I hope you'll try a little bit of cheerleading next time--it really is a blast (and a great break from reading).

Thank you, all! And yes, I do plan to watch the mini-series. Been downloading it already.:) Will try cheerleading next time, too.
