TBR Challenge 2010

I've often felt guilty about the size of my TBR, so this is the perfect challenge this 2010 to alleviate my guilt. Miz B is hosting the 2010 TBR Challenge, and it's a beautifully simple challenge. All you have to do is pick 12 books that have been languishing on your TBR for six months or longer and commit to reading them this year. You can also come up with an alternate list of 12 other books, in case you really don't feel like reading a book from your original list.

I'm excited to knock off at least 12 books from my TBR this year, so here's my list:
  1. A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole
  2. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
  3. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick
  4. I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith
  5. Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell
  6. Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha by Roddy Doyle
  7. Smilla's Sense of Snow by Peter Hoeg
  8. The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton
  9. The New York Trilogy by Paul Auster
  10. The Sea by John Banville
  11. Titus Groan by Mervyn Peake
  12. Vernon God Little by DBC Pierre
I'm actually planning on finishing 41 books from my TBR this year. That's my main challenge. These 12 are my top priorities because I've started them long ago but never finished them or they've been on my shelf longest.

So, I'm excited to dig into the books from my own library. Good luck to all the TBR challenge participants. And, to everyone, here's to finding more gems from our own libraries!

That's a great list to start with. I know a lot of people didn't like Vernon God Little but I thought it was brillant and Peake's Gormenghast novels are an old favourite of mine, looking forward to your reviews.

Actually, I started reading Vernon God Little more than a year ago. I got to the second chapter then put it down because it felt harsh. However, I'm ready to restart and finish the book this time. Thanks for the encouragement.:)

I'm with you on Nineteen Eighty-Four. I started it last year but got sidetracked.

@Rise - Yup, but now, I promise not to get sidetracked anymore with these books. Let's make this the year of 1984!

Lists, hmm. Maybe I should be stronger on making to-do or to-read lists this year. They're good motivators and they give focus to my efforts.

You should try it, Michelle. It's fun seeing things get ticked off lists.:)

The 2010 TBR Challenge is seems just like the personal challenge I've set for myself this year --- that of reading more from my TBR pile.

I'm looking into this. Thanks for the info and good luck to you on this challenge.

@Jo - hope you can join the TBR Challenge with me so that we can pare down our TBRs together.:)

A Confederacy of Dunces is hilarious. New York Trilogy is good. Age of Innocence and I Capture the Castle are on my all-time faves list. You're in for a great reading year!

Thanks, Mrs. B! I've heard good things about all these books, so now it's time to find out for myself. Very excited.:)
