Read-a-thon End of the Event Meme

I finished! Albeit a few minutes after zero hour, but I finished, in between all the interruptions of life.:)

1. Which hour was most daunting for you?

I'd say the last. Only because I was rushing reading my third book. Granted, my third book is very thin.:)

2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?

Among the three I read, I'd suggest Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh. But in general, I'd strongly suggest the following:

the Sookie Stackhouse series
the Hunger Games series
the Hitchhiker's Guide series
the Mortal Instruments Trilogy series

3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?

Televise it? Just kidding.:)

4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?

Well, as usual, I loved the Cheerleaders. Oh, and this time, I was keeping track of all the #readathon tweets. It was highly encouraging to read them.

5. How many books did you read?

Three! Short ones!

6. What were the names of the books you read?

Vampire Knight vol. 3 by Matsuri Hino
Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh by Robert C. O'Brien
Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller

7. Which book did you enjoy most?

Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh. I can relate to Mrs. Frisby, so much so that I even forgot that she's a mouse.

8. Which did you enjoy least?

I enjoyed them all, but I'd have to say that the book that didn't make me happy (on account of its content) is obviously Death of a Saleman.

9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?

Hmm, not really sure. I've always loved the work of the cheerleaders in the Readathon. Oh, and it was great that some posted where they were cheering from. I liked that touch.

10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?

I'll definitely be participating again as a reader. I met my goal of reading more than my last readathon. So next time, I'll target four books.:)

The readathon was so much fun- it was my first, but definitely won't be my last. I'm also glad you're blogging more regularly in October. I missed you in September :-)

Hey congrats for a successful read-a-thon. After going through your post and Blooey's as well, this challenge seems much more interesting now. Maybe, I could give this a whirl next year. :)

Filipino authors with internationally-published books

A Filipina YA author was at the Brooklyn Book Festival and other festivals, some Filipino authors just wrapped up panels during the Fil-Am International Book Festival in San Francisco , a few other Fil-Am authors are coming out with new books from a major publisher in the next few months ( literary fiction , young adult , and middle grade ), and another classic author was recently published by Penguin Classics. The El Bimbo Variations by Adam David

When reading a poetry collection, one of the last things you expect to do is laugh out loud. But, if you were to read Adam David's new edition of The El Bimbo Variations , that is exactly what you'd be doing. My advice: try not to read it in public, unless you're okay with people looking at you weird because your shoulders are suddenly shaking in laughter or you have a snap-happy grin on your face. I first read The El Bimbo Variations back when it was still in pdf format. Four years ago, the poet Adam David gave a talk to one of our high school junior classes during a yearly activity where we expose students to real-life writers. In preparation, he sent us  a copy of his El Bimbo Variations , and told me that we could distribute it to the students so that they'd know his work. We photocopied them for the classes assigned to Adam and, on the day of the talk, I went in and listened to his session where he got riled up about big publishers and their limited repertoire...
