Dead to the World

One word: Eric. The Nordic vampire who has more power than Bill, and definitely more gallant. This is the book in the series that I've been waiting to read. Here, Sookie discovers Eric beside the road in the middle of the night, running towards her house. His memory was stolen by a coven of witches who want to take control of Eric's area, both economically and politically.

Yes, it sounds lame and contrived. But who cares? It's Sookie Stackhouse!:)

Anyway, Eric is not the vampire that he once was--he's gentler, more sensitive, and more inclined to reveal his emotions to Sookie. And, whether he has his memory or not, he's not a wimp. So, the anticipated romance between the two flares up, now that Bill is out of the picture. And I just love it!

Dead as a Doornail

One of the sub-plots of the previous book is Jason's disappearance.Turns out he was kidnapped by a were-panther and turned. Now, Jason is turning were-panther himself, just when someone or something's taken to killing two-natured (i.e., man and animal in one) individuals in Bon Temps. The other were-panthers suspect Jason, so Sookie has to prove her brother's innocence by solving the crime.

Other subplots include the leadership transition of the werewolves. Plus, Sookie's new love interest is introduced here, the bald and lovely Quinn.

This book, however, doesn't seem to be as engaging as the others. Mainly because I don't get to see a lot of the vampires. Plus, Eric's back to his old self, uncognizant of what really happened between him and Sookie.

Definitely Dead

I must have missed a storyline or I didn't pay attention to a previous one, because I didn't know that Sookie had a cousin who was consort of the vampire queen of Louisiana and who had become a vampire herself. And who, unfortunately, was killed in a vampire power play.

In this installment of the series, Sookie has to go to New Orleans to pack up her cousin's things, upon request of the Queen. So, Sookie finally meets the Queen of Louisiana. Of course, things can't be as simple as packing up stuff in Sookie Stackhouse's life. She discovers that her cousin stole something of the Queen's, a gift from her new husband. The Queen stresses to Sookie that she must find what Hadley stole soon, otherwise, the Queen herself will be placed in a precarious position. The loss of the gift will signal a grave disrespect from her, and her husband, who's not really that into her anyway, is free to start a war with the Queen.

This, however, is not the only thing that Sookie has to contend with. She discovers a greater betrayal by Bill, which, I feel, leaves the area free for either Eric or Quinn.

Unlike Twilight, the war that everyone gears up for in the end does happen, which is another thing I love about the series. There's no shyness in killing off characters.

All Together Dead

Set after the events of Hurricane Katrina, the story focuses on the events of the Vampire Summit. Yes, it seems that vampires are more organized than we think, and they do have things like conventions. So, Sookie is invited as the Queen of Louisiana's own telepath. Included in the Queen's retinue, of course, are Eric, Bill, and Sookie's other vampire acquaintances. Sookie's new squeeze, Quinn, will also be present as events organizer.

As soon as they arrive at the convention venue, though, deaths occur, and the Queen is at the center of the controversy. Not the least of which is the trial she's facing for the war casualties from the previous book. And if the Queen's at the center of controversy, then so is Sookie.

Again, this book has a big finish, proving that vampires are not as indestructible as they seem, even in big groups.
