Book Loot and Challenges update
My latest order from Book Depository has finally arrived! At least, 5 out of the 6 books I ordered. And no, these don't count toward my 12-book limit for this year, because these were ordered mid-December last year. So, I actually included these in my TBR count.
Did I mention I love Book Depository? They are kind enough to ship for free to my country, and they send the books in these nice individual packets. Also, so far, my books have always arrived before I expect them. My two prior orders took less than two weeks to arrive, and though this order took a little over a month from the time I ordered them, I actually expected them much later because I factored in the holiday rush. I did order them close to Christmas, after all.
I'm still waiting for the sixth book, Jasper Fforde's The Last Dragonslayer. I'm a big Fforde fan and couldn't wait for the book to appear in bookstores here.
So, about these 5:
- Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer - because I've read so many good things about it so I want to finally read it.
- One Day by David Nicholls - I've read many good things about this, too, particularly Mrs. B's glowing review. And so I'm very curious.
- Once by Morris Gleitzman - I rarely take risks on books I haven't heard about. But I'm in a YA slump, so I figure I should look for a YA book that isn't talked about currently, but received good reviews. I was able to find this book by Australian author, Morris Gleitzman. It's set in the Holocaust and told by a Jewish boy. So, yes, I was very interested.
- The Woman in Black by Susan Hill - this is actually a book club assignment for October. But I've been in the mood for scary novels. Hence, I'm doing advanced reading.:)
- Tinkers by Paul Harding - 2010 Pulitzer Prize winner for fiction. From an indie publisher. Enough said.
I don't really have a challenges update, except to say that I've been successful with the TBR Dare so far, and I haven't bought any book yet this year. That may change soon seeing as I will need to order a few books for the book club. Thank God I can buy for other people, even if I can't buy for myself. In any case, you can check out my current status here.
So, have you read any of these books? Do you think I'm in for some good reading?
Comments
Woot woot on the The Woman in Black. I'm sure that what you were looking for when you started to read The Woman in White you'll find it in TWIB.
@gatheringbooks - Hope to read and review it by February. The love month seems like a perfect time to do it.
@Peter- you're right. It was.:) I liked Woman in White very much, but I was really hoping for a good ghost story. And Woman in Black was it.
I just recently ordered One Day as well and hope to get to it soon.
