Of awards and book blogs
First, let me thank Aloi from guiltless reading for this award. Been a while since I got one of these (of course, it's been a while since I blogged semi-regularly), and it's always a pleasure.
Anyway, to maintain the tradition of the book blogosphere's version of the chain letter (albeit with the added element of recognition), here are the rules for The Versatile Blogger award:
Anyway, to maintain the tradition of the book blogosphere's version of the chain letter (albeit with the added element of recognition), here are the rules for The Versatile Blogger award:
- Thank and link back to the person who gave you this award.
- Share 7 things about yourself.
- Pass the award along to 15 bloggers you have just discovered and who you think are fantastic for whatever reason. (in no particular order...)
- Contact the bloggers you've picked and let them know about the award.
So, 7 things about me...
- I used to be a high school English teacher.
- I quit teaching after 12 years to concentrate on family and explore a career change.
- I have two wonderful and beautiful children.
- I eat like a horse...
- But I don't eat anything below the muscle (like liver, intestines, etc.)
- I'm a sucker for the Final Fantasy games on Playstation, even if I'm well into my thirties...
- and I don't think my playing video games makes me less of a reader.
My impression is that these awards have a lifespan, and I believe I might be late in passing this award along. Nevertheless, I just want to feature these fantastic blogs I've discovered whose writing I truly like. (Btw, Aloi already picked most of the blogs I would've given this award to, hence I'm not including them here.)
- a book diary - I read her reviews and found them very thoughtful, insightful, and pleasantly revealing about the writer.
- Absorbed in Words - I don't know how I missed this blog all this time, but his reviews are fantastic.
- Asia in the Heart, World on the Mind - because I love Tarie's campaign to bring more Asian YA literature to the attention of the book blogosphere and readers everywhere.
- everyday reads - I like the books that Lightheaded reviews, and I love her witty style.
- One More Page - Tina writes very thoughtful reviews, which you can find both on her blog and Philippine Online Chronicles. Not to mention that one of the books I truly enjoyed reading this year was something I won from one of her giveaways.;)
- Polilla de Libros - been lurking on Mika's blog for a couple of weeks now, which I discovered through Blooey's blog. I like the books she reviews and the way she writes her reviews. About time I told her I like her blog, don't you think?
- tabbed books - another recent discovery. Great informative and succinct reviews.
- Dead White Guys: An Irreverent Guide to Classic Literature - how do I not overstate this...? This blog is freaking hilarious!!! I feel bad that I just discovered it.
- Vintage Kids' Books My Kid Loves - ok, I'm cheating here. Of all the blogs on this list, this is the only one I've known for over a year. But I just had to include it because I really, really love the children's books and the pictures on her blog.
I'm a bit hard put to come up with 15 bloggers, so I'll just stick with these 9.
Second, the longlists for the Book Blogger Appreciation Week (BBAW) awards are up (have been so since the beginning of August, actually), so click on the link if you want to discover more great blogs or if you just want to support your friends. You can also register to join the BBAW events, if you haven't already. It's been a while, too, since I joined a community activity, but from what I remember, the book blogging community activities were always warm, welcoming, and great fun!

@Lightheaded - You're welcome!
@Mika - Well, now we've both ceased lurking on each other's blogs.:)
@Jinky - Thank you!
@Tarie - Hahaha! First, you're welcome. Second, yes, I quit teaching. I'm in publishing now. Remember that History of the Book class we once took? (Wait, were we there together?) Anyway, that stuck, so here I am.:)
More details please!!!
Anyway, sent you an email with more details.:)
I have been to your blog a few times before but I can't remember if I've ever posted comments.
I noticed you're in publishing... Do you work for a magazine or book company?
@Mark David - Hi! You have left a comment, over at my Filipino Book Bloggers' list. That's how I found your blog.:) And I sort of work for a book company.
I haven't heard about Book Blogger Appreciation Week. I will definitely check that out.
Thanks for the great finds!
