Filipino Reading Habits Survey Results and Limbag Kapihan (Updated: 7 Mar 2014)

So, here's the presentation I showed during my section in National Book Development Board's Limbag Kapihan for writers. In it are the results for the Filipino Reading Habits Survey I conducted last Feb. One caveat I will emphasize: this is an informal survey, and I am no statistician. I am, however, a very curious individual, and I like facts and statistics. Hence, the survey. The rest of the caveats you'll find in the presentation. The first few slides are mostly pictures of the different activities Filipino readers are up to, at least those within my zone of awareness. And I think while I was showing these, my main message was: Can we please stop saying that Filipinos aren't readers? Please. Look at the pics. Look at the sites. Look at the stats. I am a proud Pinoy and, as such, I want to dedicate a part of my blog to my fellow Filipino book bloggers. So, this post will hereafter be included in the menu bar on top.  And, for as long as I discover other Pinoy Book Bloggers, I will add to this list. There's a great variety in these blogs, by the way. Some are new, some are newish, Some blog about YA, some blog about highly intellectual, literary reads. Some use blogspot, some use wordpress. But all of us, I'd like to believe, have this in common: We are Filipino, and we are proud to blog about books. Read & Meet, part 2!

Yesterday I went to the second READ & MEET: A Read Together Session, organized by the lovely Alexx Majam of Drafts Gift Shop & Studio in Quezon City.  Essentially, Read & Meet is a silent reading/book lover socializing session, the brainchild of Alexx and Ilia (I think! Correct me if I’m wrong, Ilia!). It’s held in the workshop area of Alexx’s flower shop, Dratfts, which isn’t a huge space, so there’s only room for 10 people, making for a cozy reading session.  I’d been to the first one as well, as I do know both Ilia and Alexx professionally. On occasion, I even try to convince them to do some other reading-related events for both work and fun. I didn’t think I’d make it to this second one, because of scheduling conflicts and because when Alexx announced the sign-ups, I think the slots filled up very quickly.
