Filipino Book Bloggers

I am a proud Pinoy and, as such, I want to dedicate a part of my blog to my fellow Filipino book bloggers. So, this post will hereafter be included in the menu bar on top. And, for as long as I discover other Pinoy Book Bloggers, I will add to this list. There's a great variety in these blogs, by the way. Some are new, some are newish, Some blog about YA, some blog about highly intellectual, literary reads. Some use blogspot, some use wordpress. But all of us, I'd like to believe, have this in common: We are Filipino, and we are proud to blog about books. Read & Meet, part 2!

Yesterday I went to the second READ & MEET: A Read Together Session, organized by the lovely Alexx Majam of Drafts Gift Shop & Studio in Quezon City. Essentially, Read & Meet is a silent reading/book lover socializing session, the brainchild of Alexx and Ilia (I think! Correct me if I’m wrong, Ilia!). It’s held in the workshop area of Alexx’s flower shop, Dratfts, which isn’t a huge space, so there’s only room for 10 people, making for a cozy reading session. I’d been to the first one as well, as I do know both Ilia and Alexx professionally. On occasion, I even try to convince them to do some other reading-related events for both work and fun. I didn’t think I’d make it to this second one, because of scheduling conflicts and because when Alexx announced the sign-ups, I think the slots filled up very quickly. Read: 4/5/09 4/5 stars My advance apologies to non-readers of Filipino, as this book that I'm reviewing is written mostly in Taglish , the curious mix of Tagalog and English peculiar here in the Philippines. Para Kay B (o kung pano dinevastate ng pag-ibig ang 4 out of 5 sa atin) (For B: or how love has devastated 4 out of 5 of us ) is the first novel of accomplished Filipino screenwriter, Ricky Lee . Lee has written short stories, plays, tv and movie scripts, as well as what is considered the scriptwriting bible in the Philippines, Trip to Quiapo . Recently, his most famous screenwriting work, Himala , was voted as Best Asia-Pacific Film of All-Time through a worldwide online voting conducted by CNN.
